The Robotics Society of Japan was founded on January 28, 1983 for the purposes of promoting progress in academic fields and providing specialists with a venue for announcing their research and exchanging technical information. As of December 2014, RSJ had a total of approximately 4,100 regular and student members, and 68 groups had become supporting members.

rsj 01RSJ publishes “the Journal of the Robotics Society of Japan” and an official international journal, “Advanced Robotics”, both of which present collections of scientific papers and explanatory articles about the latest advances in robotics.

RSJ holds an “Annual Conference of the Robotics Society of Japan” as well as “Robotics Symposia”, and it plans and holds seminars related to new fields and basic information in robotics.

RSJ also promotes study and technology, in fields related to robots, by presenting “the Best Paper Awards”, “Technical Innovation Awards”, “Young Investigation Excellence Awards”, etc.

rsj 02RSJ supports IROS, ICAR, ISR and other international conferences.

RSJ is a member society of Asian Robotics Society Union (ARSU), which will construct the network among researchers in Asia according to the agreement matters of Asian Robotics Society Summit Meeting (ARSSM).

RSJ, to provide opportunities to join international students, holds the International Robotics Forum for High School Students (IRH) to provide opportunities to learn more about industrial and service robots to high school students. The lectures and explanations throughout the Conference will be given in Japanese but will be simultaneously interpreted into English. The Conference will offer an ideal opportunity for senior high school students from the around the world to communicate with each other through robots.
